Food For Thought #6 - Harmony (Friendship #2)

It seems as if, once we make friends with a person, we pluck a certain string in their hearts. That particular string, has a unique note which rings all through out time, until the person chooses to let go of the pedal. Some people, strike chords, resulting in a better relationship that one who only plucked one. We who pluck one, try as we can to pluck other strings, sometimes we prevail and produce a better sounding chord than the first. Other times, we strum a chord, yet the other chord still is better sounding. Then the worst is when one tries so hard, the strings create such a sound that is unappealing to the friend that we are shunned away. Then, in the end, the friend lifts the pedal and we have the option of striking a new note, yet we are virtually stuck with striking the same note.

I once felt that, try as I must, I could only create the single note within one of my friends. I could pluck others, and eventually create a beautiful chord, yet there was always another who had, in the beginning, stuck a chord and it resonated endlessly in her heart. The chord was such a beautiful one, it made mine seem like the one note. I would then attempt to pluck another, only ruining my previous chord and once again having to start with the single note.

Some people, strum such a unique chord, that none come close to even matching it. Those that must witness this event, are frustrated that they cannot do the same. Furiously, we pluck more and more strings in a fruitless attempt, then all is lost...

I have been through that, one to many times. I am sure there are those out there who were (or are) in the same position as I. And to those, I offer this advice. This advice, I have used my none other than myself, and have produced lovely results.

To those seeking to create a harmony with their friends:

Do something unique. Create your own unique chord within them. Find something that no one else can do. Strum a chord that no one else can finger. One that is calming to the ear of your friend and creates an addiction. Why bother wasting time to re-create the chord played by another. It will never be the same. If you were the one who had first created a chord that was appealing to your friend and someone else attempted to re-create it, you wouldn't want that would you? So I encourage those of you out there who were unfortunate to have only been able to strike a single string, I encourage you to do something unique and create your own unique chord.
